Simple BBQ Sauce

A delicious and easy-to-make condiment perfect for slathering on ribs, chicken, and other grilled favorites.

The Secret to a Great Sauce is in its Simplicity

Traditional BBQ sauce recipes often call for a long list of ingredients, from ketchup and brown sugar to spices and vinegar. But the truth is, sometimes less is more. A simple BBQ sauce can be just as flavorful and enjoyable as one with dozens of components. By paring back the ingredient list and focusing on a few key flavors, you can create a BBQ sauce that's both authentic and accessible.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Whisk until smooth, then bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce cook for about 5 minutes, or until it's thickened slightly and reduced by about half.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
  5. Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • This simple BBQ sauce is great on ribs, chicken, pork, and even vegetables like bell peppers and zucchini.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, simply cook it for a few more minutes over low heat until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • Experiment with different types of vinegar or spices to give the sauce your own unique flavor.
